OVC BASKETBALL: Colonels set to wrap up road trip at SIUE

RICHMOND — The Colonels conclude their two-game OVC road swing today with an 8 p.m. matchup with Southern Illinois Edwardsville (3-11, 0-1 OVC) in Edwardsville, Ill.

EKU (10-4, 1-0 OVC) is coming off a big 100-81 win over Eastern Illinois on Thursday in its conference opener.

Glenn Cosey had a career night against the Panthers.

Cosey knocked down an OVC record tying 10 three pointers on his way to a career-high 34 points. He hit 10-of-12 shots from behind the arc and his eighth three pointer broke Mike DiNunno’s EKU record of seven made three pointers in a game.

The Colonels hit 16 three-pointers against the Panthers and have hit 40 threes in their past four three games combined.

The Colonels defense forced the Panthers into 17 turnovers.

Edwardsville is coming off a 70-63 loss to Morehead State on Thursday.

The Cougars trailed by as many as 13 points and were down 62-51 with six minutes remaining.

But a 9-0 run got them to within two, 62-60, with 2:39 remaining, but Morehead held on down the stretch to post the win.

The Cougars are led by sophomore guard Donivine Stewart, who averages 11.1 points per contests.

Junior Maurice Wiltz averages 9.4 points and junior forward Keaton Jackson adds 8.3 points per game.

The Cougars average 71.8 points per game on 44.8 percent shooting from the floor. SIUE is averaging 36.1 percent from behind the three-point line and only 68.8 percent from the free throw line.

In the loss to Morehead, SIUE was held to a season-low 16 field-goal attempts in the second half.

Edwardsville’s opponents have averaged 79 points and have shot 51.5 percent from the field on the season.

The Colonels shot 56 percent from the field in Thursday’s win over Eastern Illinois.
