The Lady Colonels (6-5) open Ohio Valley Conference play today against one of their oldest foes when Murray State (7-5) comes to McBrayer Arena.
The Lady Racers and Lady Colonels have played 83 times, at least once a year for 42 consecutive years, with EKU holding a commanding edge, winning 54 of the 83 games.
The Lady Colonels won both matchups with Murray last season, the second coming in the first round of the OVC Tournament.
The game features a matchup of the OVC’s top offense — Murray, 75.4 points per game — and its top defense — the Lady Colonels, who are giving up only 62.8 points per game.
EKU enters the game on a three-game winning streak after its 60-47 victory over Longwood on Dec. 18.
Murray is coming off an 81-70 win last week over Bethune-Cookman.
Tonight's contest features a matchup of two of the OVCs top five scorers.
Marie Carpenter continues to lead EKU and the OVC in scoring, pouring in an average of 21.7 points per game.
Keiona Kirby is the Lady Racers' leading scorer and ranks fifth in the OVC at 18.5 points per game.
Jessica Winfrey is second on the Racers in scoring at 9.7 points per game, and leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 10.8 boards per game.
