OVC BASKETBALL: Colonels set to return to action against IUPUFW

RICHMOND — The Colonels return to action today for the first time in more than a week for their last tune-up before heading into conference play.

EKU takes on Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne at 2 p.m. today on the road in a matchup of top-25 mid-major teams.

The Colonels (8-4) are ranked 22nd in the Mid-Major Top 25, while the Mastodons (10-4) are ranked 23rd.

EKU is coming off an 84-73 win over North Carolina A&T on Dec. 18 at McBrayer Arena. It was the 21st consecutive non-conference home win for the Colonels, tying a program record set in 1980. In that game, senior Marcus Lewis led the Colonels with a career-high 20 points. Glenn Cosey, the Colonels leading scorer on the season, added 19 points, and Corey Walden had 10 points.

IPFW is no stranger to playing Ohio Valley Conference teams this season. EKU will be the fifth OVC opponent for the Mastodons. They have beaten Eastern Illinois twice, Tennessee Tech and SIU-Edwardsville.

Both EKU and IPFW have beaten Kennesaw State this season.

The Mastodons are coming off an 85-65 win over EIU last week, their fifth consecutive win at home this season.

Luis Jacobo, a 6-foot-5 senior forward, leads IPFW in scoring at 14.3 points per game, while 6-foot-9 junior Steve Forbes is second at 11.7 points and five rebounds per game.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two teams. EKU is 2-1 against the Mastodons, the last win coming in 2012.

Cosey continues to lead EKU in scoring, averaging 19.4 points, 4.7 assists and 4 rebounds per game.

Walden is second on the team in both scoring, 12 points per contest and assists, 2.8 per game, and is averaging 4.3 rebounds per game.

Lewis, 11.5 points per game and Orlando Williams, 11 points per game, are the other two Colonels averaging double-figures in scoring.
