BOWLING: Hickam flirts with 300 again

RICHMOND — Bad Bowlers No-Tap

Nine pins down with the first ball in a frame counts as a strike in no-tap leagues.

Kyle Shultz led this league last Tuesday with a 279 game and 656 series, followed by David Robinson at 236 and 654. Ed Maggard bowled a 611 series.

Pat Taulbee (219) and Tina Hisle (214) rolled the top women’s games for the night, while the best women’s series were 555 by Hisle and 523 by April Brumfield.

State bowling tournaments

The seventh annual Kentucky Women’s State Tournament will be held in Paducah on Oct. 26 through 28 and Nov. 3 and 4. The deadline for entering this tourney is Oct. 13.

The 57th annual Kentucky State Bowling Association Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 3-4, Nov. 10-11 and Nov. 17-18 in Louisville. Entries for this affair close on Oct. 31.

Entry forms for both tournaments are available at the Galaxy Center.

Is this the “new math”?

The Big 10 Football Conference now includes 12 teams, the Big 12 Conference currently has 10 members and the Atlantic 10 basketball conference includes 16 teams.

How does an elementary school teacher explain this to her students?

Teaching geography is also problematic as the Atlantic 10 Conference includes four schools which are located far from the Atlantic Ocean — Xavier and Dayton in Ohio, Butler in Indiana and St. Louis in Missouri.

Also, the Southeastern Conference now has three members from west of the Mississippi River — Arkansas, Missouri and Texas A&M.
