BEREA — The Lady Colonels will try to open a season with back-to-back wins for the first time since 2008 when they take on Kent State today at McBrayer Arena.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.

EKU (1-0) got the season under way Friday with a 73-63 overtime win against Miami (Ohio). Junior Marie Carpenter had 27 points and senior center Jade Barber finished with 13 points, 21 rebounds and seven blocks.

Raechele Gray had 15 points and five assists and Brittany Coles had 10 points for the Lady Colonels. EKU shot just 38 percent from the field, including 26 percent in the first half, and overcame 20 turnovers to earn the victory.

Miami (OH), the preseason pick to win the MAC East Division, needed a banked-in three pointer at the end of regulation just to force overtime.

Kent State was just 6-21 last season and was picked to finish fifth in the MAC East Division this year. The Golden Flashes opened the season Saturday with a 83-53 loss at UMass. Diamond Beckford led Kent State with 15 points, while Trisha Krewson had 11 points.

The Golden Flashes also lost their only exhibition game, falling at home to Division II Gannon University, 70-61.

Kent State leads the all-time series with EKU, 2-1, but the teams have not met since the 1998-99 season.

The Colonels will wrap up their season-opening three-game homestand against UNC-Asheville at 2 p.m. Saturday.
