Great turnout for Labor Day scramble at Arlington
Glenmore Jones
Register Golf Columnist
RICHMOND —
Eighty-one golfers teed it up at Arlington Country Club in a mixed scramble on Labor Day.
After a fun day of golf on a beautiful golf course, there were two teams that tied with par-busting scores of 55, which is 17-under par. The teams were Pat and Mike Brandenurg, Julia Hovey and Bob Gieger along with Steve and Pat Miller, Darrell and Howard Maxwell.
They chose to be co-champions instead of matching cards or playing it off.
Good decision.
In the closest to the pin contest, Kent Huntzinger won on hole No. 5, Chuck Carol won on No. 7 and Jane Ann Whittaker won No. 14.
New head professional Patrick Williams and his staff kept things running smoothly.
Congratulations to you par-busters!
Thanks from Big Brothers/Big Sisters
I received a thank you note and letter from live wire Kelli Stewart, who does a great job as regional coordinator for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Bluegrass. It was in response to the fund-raiser scramble that Gibson Bay pro Jason Eberle and I organized on the short course on Aug. 9.
The $915 raised will fund a golf camp for Big Brothers/Big Sisters later this month.
This is the letter that Kelli sent:
“We had a great turnout for this event and we are humbled that everyone was so excited to come enjoy the course for the day just to benefit our kids!
The kids who will participate in the golf camp in September are kids who might never have been introduced to the sport of golf.
It’s important to show kids what is out there. Get them involved in new things and maybe spark their interest to major in the PGM program at EKU.
You never know.
We can’t thank everyone enough for putting this whole event together. We couldn’t have done this without Glenmore Jones, Jason Eberle along with Gibson Bay and all our golfers! Sign Source provided the sponsor signs and the Madison Country Club sponsored the shirts that First Gear printed up!”
This was a fun event and next year, it will be even better. I would like to say thanks, not only to Kelli Stewart and Jason Eberle but also to Marty Frazer, pastor at Madison Hills Christian Church, for his support in getting four teams from Madison Hills in this worthwhile event.
Mahalo!
Hole-In-One club
John B. Greenwell needed only one swing of an 8-iron on the 163-yard No. 7 at Arlington in August to put a one on his card.
Great shot, John!
