Two All-Star teams still in title race

Register Staff Report

With one day left of the District 3 All-Star tournament, there are several representatives of the Richmond Little League still in title contention.

The 9- and 10-year-old American Division All-Stars advanced to the championship game with a 14-1 win over Mercer County. They will advance to the state tournament at Lake Reba, regardless of the outcome of today’s title game, which will be at 2 p.m. in Cynthiana.

The 11-year-old American All-Stars have the potential to move on. They will play Eastern American at noon today and the winner will advance to the title game at 2 p.m.

Both the 9- and 10-year-old National squad and the 11-year-old National team lost their games Saturday and were eliminated from the tournament.

9-10 American

An excellent hitting effort led the way as the 9- and 10-year-old American squad rolled to a 14-1, four-inning win over Mercer County.

Bryar Rose pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts and only gave up one hit.

Ryan Gordon was 3-for-4 with two triples and a single, Alex Mayes was 3-for-4 with three singles, Rose was 2-for-4 with two singles, Jared Grant was 2-for-4 with two singles and Brian Turner, McKinley Sewell, Logan Black, Cameron Delao, Tyler Boneta and Adam Ritchey all logged hits in the effort.

They will face Harrison County in today’s title game at 2 p.m. in Cynthiana.

11-year-old Nationals

The 11-year-old National squad couldn’t put together the rally effort, falling 8-7 to Anderson County in the semifinals.

Anderson County took a 5-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed. The National squad used a three-run fifth inning to tie the game, 7-7, but Anderson County was able to push one across in the top of the sixth inning.

Sam Eye was on base in the bottom of the sixth, but he never was able to get across the plate.

Case Covington had a single and a triple, Tanner Kidwell had a two-RBI home run and a single, Sam Eye had two singles, Hunter Fritz had a two-run double and Griffin Sexton, Trey Sexton and Dakota Begley all had singles.

Case Covington pitched 5 1/3 innings and Trey Sexton finished the game.

9-10 National

An error-filled game led to the elimination of the 9- and 10-year-old National All-Stars, as they fell 14-1 to Harrison County in the semifinals.

Reese Barker had an RBI and K.J. Long also had a hit in the game.

Zack Friend was the starting pitcher and Chase Robinson and Caleb Miller both stepped in in relief.
