Richmond’s 9-10 year-old All-Stars pick up lopsided wins

The Richmond Little League 9-10 year-old All-Stars teams once again rolled to big victories on Wednesday in Cynthiana at the District 3 Tournament.
Both teams picked up 10-0 wins and finished up pool play with 3-0 records. Both will advance to the elimination portion of the tournament.
Richmond American defeated Western American in four innings, while Richmond National blasted Western National.
In other action from Wednesday in Cynthiana, the Richmond American 11-year-old All-Stars improved to 3-0 with a 5-4 win over Western.
In Harrodsburg, the Richmond American 11-12 year-old All-Stars wrapped up play Wednesday in the District 3 Tournament with an 8-4, seven-inning loss to Anderson County.
9-10 All-Stars
Richmond American
Brian Turner pitched a complete game, striking out five, and also had three hits as Richmond American defeated Western American Wednesday in Cynthiana.
Richmond American scored twice in the first inning, then four more times in the third and fourth.
Ryan Gordon and Alex Mayes each had two hits, Bryar Rose had a hit and walked twice, Jared Grant had a hit and a walk, while Jason Hurt, Logan Black and Cameron Delao each had a hit.
Josh Clark had a walk.
Richmond American is set to return to action this weekend.
Richmond National
Hunter Hazelwood hit a home run as Richmond National cruised past Western National on Wednesday in Cynthiana.
Jacob Ferris pitched five shutout innings before Caleb Miller came on to pitch the final inning.
Hazelwood had three RBIs and scored twice. Gavin Williams, Miller, Chase Robinson, K.J. Long and Hunter Brock each had a hit for Richmond National.
The All-Stars scored seven times in the second inning, then added two more runs in the third and one more run in the sixth.
Richmond National is set to return to action this weekend.
11-12 All-Stars
The Richmond American All-Stars finished up play in the District 3 Tournament on Wednesday with an 8-4 loss to Anderson County in Harrodsburg.
With the loss, the team finishes pool play at 1-2 and does not advance to the elimination portion of the tournament.
Anderson County jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Richmond American rallied to tied the game in the top of the fourth.
The score remained tied until Anderson County scored four times in the bottom of the seventh on a grand slam.
Dexter Hicks had two hits for Richmond American, while Jeremy Lakes, Isaac Swafford, Jonah Kelsey, Drew Harmon and Mason Crump each had one hit.
Austin Templeton started and went three innings, allowing four runs on three hits. Lakes pitched the final 3 1/3 innings, giving up four runs on five hits.
The Richmond National All-Stars finished pool play with a 2-1 record, but also did not qualify for the elimination portion of the tournament.
11-year-old All-Stars
The Richmond American All-Stars rallied from a three-run deficit to pick up third-straight win Wednesday in Cynthiana.
After trailing 4-1 after three innings, Richmond American scored once in the fourth and fifth inning, before pushing across two runs in the sixth to secure a 5-4 win over Western.
Dylan Masters pitched five innings, striking out seven while giving up six hits. Carter Skipworth had three strikeouts and allowed in one hit in one inning of work.
Kyle Kelsey, Will Daniel and Skipworth all singled in the third as Richmond American took an early 1-0 lead. Western scored four times in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a three-run home run.
Jyre Richardson doubled in the fourth and scored on a ground ball by Masters. Kelsey and Hunter Kalaben singled in the fifth and Skipworth later added an RBI fielder’s choice.
Masters singled in the sixth and scored on Kameron Presnell’s game-tying RBI double. Jordan Adams later delivered the game-winning run with an RBI single.
Richmond American will return to action at 8 p.m. today against Mercer County in Cynthiana.
