All-Stars split

HARRODSBURG The 11- and 12-year-old Richmond Little League All-Star teams split a pair of games at the District 3 Tournament in Harrodsburg on Tuesday.

The Richmond American team rolled to a 10-5 win, while the Richmond National squad’s rally fell short and they fell to the Eastern American, 7-6.

Richmond American 10, Western 5

After taking a slim 4-3 lead after the first inning, the 11- and 12-year-old Richmond American All-Stars held the Western American All-Stars scoreless in four of the five remaining innings on their way to a 10-5 victory.

After Western American scored three runs in the first, Jeremy Lakes, Jonah Kelsey, Austin Templeton and Isaac Swafford all scored in the bottom of the inning. Starting pitcher Ashton Scott struck out the side in the top of the second, giving Richmond an opportunity to expand their lead.

Mason Crump added to the total in the second when he got across the plate on a triple by Ross Cummins. Cummins later scored on a groundout.

Western sliced the lead to 6-5 in the fourth before Richmond once again took control of the game. Both Joseph Hampton and Cummins scored on a double by Dexter Hicks. Templeton added his second run of the game and Hicks would later cross the plate as well, both on bases-loaded walks.

The Richmond American (1-1) team will face off against Anderson County at 6 p.m. today in Harrodsburg.

Eastern American 7, Richmond National 6

After giving up six straight runs, the Richmond National All-Stars came back to tie the game, but eventually gave up the winning run in the final inning.

Eastern scored five runs in the first inning, including the final one on a controversial play after which the baserunner was allowed to score, but was ejected from the game for allegedly leading into the catcher with his shoulder.

Richmond (2-1) got a run back in the second inning, when Brayden Holker scored on a bases-loaded walk.

After tying the game, Eastern scored the go-ahead run in the final inning off a passed ball.

The next game for Richmond National will be in the elimination bracket of the tournament. The matchups have not yet been determined and bracket play will begin Thursday in Harrodsburg.
