Richmond teams open District 3 Tourneys with wins

CYNTHIANA The Richmond Little League All-Stars shined on the opening day of the District 3 Tournaments on Saturday in Harrison County, as all three teams that took the field were victorious.

The 9- and 10-year-old Richmond American All-Stars picked up a 12-11 victory over Winchester National. The 9- and 10-year-old Richmond National All-Stars picked up a 16-6 win over the Eastern American All-Stars, and the 10- and 11-year-old Richmond American All-Stars picked up a 12-1 win over Harrison County.

The scheduled game between the 10- and 11-year-old Richmond National All-Stars and Winchester All-Stars was postponed because of the rain. A rescheduled date has not been set.



9- and 10-year-old American All-Stars rally

After starting out strong, the Richmond American 9- and 10-year-old All-Stars scored the final four runs of the game and held the Winchester National scoreless in the final inning to pick up a 12-11 win.

Richmond came out hitting strong, getting three huge doubles in the first inning off the bats of Ryan Gordon, Bryar Rose and Jared Grant to take a 3-1 lead. They pushed two across with two outs in the second and then Gordon drove in a run in the third inning off a triple.

Winchester took a 8-6 lead in the fourth inning, pushing two across on a bunt. However, Richmond drew even in the bottom of the inning when Brian Turner scored on a bad throw and McKinley Sewell got across the plate on a RBI single by Logan Black.

After allowing Winchester to take an 11-8 lead in the fifth, Richmond tied it again, scoring the final two runs off a double by Grant. Richmond held Winchester scoreless in the top of the sixth.

Jason Hurt got on base with a single and Black hit a triple in the bottom of the sixth. Black went on to score the winning run on a single by Tyler Boneta.

Gordon was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple, Rose was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a single, Grant had a single and a double, Turner had three singles, Hurt had three singles and Black had a single.

Turner, Rose, Gordon and Grant all pitched for Richmond, which will face Eastern National at 2 p.m. today in Cynthiana.



9- and 10-year-old Richmond National All-Stars finish strong

After a slow start, the Richmond National all-stars picked up a 16-6 victory after four innings over the Eastern American all-stars in the 9- and 10-year-old division.

Eastern scored two in the first inning and added another three in the second to take a 5-0 lead before Richmond’s bats got going. They scored five runs in the second inning, added seven more in the third and drove in four more in the fourth in end the game.

Caleb Miller scored two runs, Gavin Williams scored three runs, Zack Friend scored two runs, Jesse Cox scored two runs and Chase Robinson scored three runs.

Miller, Robinson and Cox all pitched for the Richmond National All-Stars, who will return to action at 2 p.m. today against the Winchester American in Cynthiana.



Richmond American rolls past Harrison County

Will Daniel hit a solo home run in the first inning and Carter Skipworth shut down the Harrison County bats as the Richmond American All-Stars rolled to a 12-1 win Saturday in the 11-12 year-old District 3 Tournament in Cynthiana.

Jordan Adams had an RBI single in the second and Daniel added a two-run double later in the inning to put Richmond up 3-0. The All-Stars added two more runs in each of the next two innings, including RBI singles from Jyre Richardson and Drake Coomer and a two-run double by Josh Wright.

Wright added another RBI single in the sixth and later in the inning scored on a wild pitch. Dylan Masters also reached in the final inning and came around to score.

Skipworth started and went 5 2/3 innings. Masters came on to get the final out.

Richmond American is set to return to action at 2 p.m. today against Eastern National in Cynthiana.
