Estes, Davis roll top games

Lynn Estes bowled the top men’s game of the week at the Galaxy Center with a 234 score in the Classic Doubles League last Thursday.

Once again, Novel Davis led the women with a 217 game and a four-game series of 771 to set a new high score for women in the Classic Doubles League.

Novel Davis had a good night, as she raised her league-leading women’s four-game series score to 771, topping her previous high of 752.

Davis opened the fourth game with five consecutive strikes on the way to the night’s highest women’s game of 217. Her series also included games of 178, 192 and 184.

Tina Hisle had the second-highest women’s game (182), while Laurie Lennon had the second-highest series (611).

Lynn Estes led the league’s men for the night with a 234 game and 732 series. Estes also had a 206 game.

The second-highest men’s series (722) was bowled by David Robinson. His series included two no-miss games of 204 and 201.

Mark Rogers also had a 700 series (713) and a 211 game. The only other 200 game was rolled by Steve Dickey, at 206.

TX1 (Tina Hisle and David Robinson) picked up five wins to move into first place, one game ahead of Escaped New York (Bill and Laurie Lennon) and one and a half games ahead of Beauty and Brains (Jennifer Morris and David Norman).



Tuesday Mixed

Donna Fourre topped all the bowlers in this league with a 189 game and 526 series last week.

Barbara Brogle bowled the second-highest game (167) and series (482) for the league’s women.

Carl Daniels had the highest game (167) and series (467) for the men, while Steve Dickey had the second-highest game (166) and series (433).

With three weeks remaining in the season, Here We Go Again (Donna Fourre and Carl Daniels) holds a two-game lead over Pocket Pickers (Joanna and Steve Dickey).



Bad Bowlers

Tina Hisle rolled five consecutive strikes on the way to a 209 score to re-take the top spot on the leaderboard for women’s games in this league.

Renda Roberts had bowled a 205 game the previous week to top Hisle’s previous high score of 204.

Kim Breeding had the second-highest women’s game for the night (172) and tied Hisle for the best two-game series, at 320.

David Robinson had the top men’s game (194) and two-game series (358), while Jay Puckett was second in each category at 188 and 345.



Let’s Have A Ball

Lewis Jones Jr. had the highest game (200) and the second-highest series (508).

Mark Rogers had the highest series (538), while Miranda Rowe had the second-highest game (188).



Michigan bowler sets new series record for USBC Open

Bo Goergen of Midland, Mich., set a new series record of 862 at the USBC Open Championships in Las Vegas last week.

Goergen’s record came in the team competition. He opened with back-to-back 299 games (how frustrating that must be) and followed with a 264 game to reach his total. This beat the previous record of 858 set in 2004.

The 48-year-old rolled 32 strikes in that series. He added a 700 series in doubles and 628 in singles for a 2190 total, which puts him in third place thus far in all events.



Bluegrass State Games bowling

The deadline for mail registration for bowling in the 25th-annual Bluegrass State Games is July 11. The bowling at these games is scheduled for July 25 and 26 at the Eastland Lanes in Lexington.

Singles and doubles competition is available for five age groups — eight and under, 9-12, 13-19, 20-54 and 55 and older.

Each age group offers both sanctioned and open divisions. Bowlers with USBC averages can compete in the sanctioned divisions, which will use handicapped scoring. The open division is open to any bowler and will use scratch scoring.

Each age group will feature medal play, in which the top four scorers will compete to determine the winners of the gold, silver and bronze medals.

Bowling has been omitted from the Bluegrass Games the past two years because of a low number of participants during previous years.

All local bowlers are urged to register for the summer games so bowling will continue to be a part of these games.
