Lakes wins 10 events at Cardinal Throwdown

It was quite a weekend for Morgan Lakes.
The 10-year-old member of the Telford YMCA swim team won all 10 of her events in the Cardinal Aquatics Summer Throwdown at the University of Louisville.
Lakes won her division (nine- and 10-year-olds) in the 50-meter freestyle (with a time of 31.52 seconds), the 100-meter freestyle (with a time of 1:09.09), the 200-meter freestyle (with a time of 2:35.67), the 50-meter backstroke (with a time of 40.20 seconds), the 100-meter backstroke (with a time of 1:23.93), the 50-meter breaststroke (with a time of 43.05 seconds), the 100-meter breaststroke (with a time of 1:35.21), in the 50-meter fly (with a time of 36.19 seconds), in the 100-meter fly (with a time of 1:24.87) and in the 200-meter individual medley, with a time of 2:52.79.
She received United States Swimming National AAAA times in the 200-meter individual medley, the 50-meter freestyle and the 100-meter freestyle.
John Babuka also had a strong showing. The 11-year-old won the 50-meter and 100-meter breaststroke, as well as the 200-meter individual medley. Babuka finished second in the 100-meter freestyle, the 200-meter freestyle, the 400-meter freestyle, the 50-meter fly and the 100-meter fly; as well as third in the 50-meter freestyle.
Chase Baldwin received accolades in all 10 of his events, including four second-place finishes in the 50-meter backstroke, the 100-meter backstroke, the 50-meter breaststroke and the 100-meter breaststroke.
Mason Neal also turned in several top-five performances, with second-place finishes in the boy’s eight-and-under 50-meter breaststroke and 100-meter breaststroke; third-place finishes in the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle, 100-meter backstroke and fifth in the 50-meter backstroke.
Mallory Burford also cracked the top-5 several times, with strong performances in the girl’s eight-and-under 100-meter breaststroke and 50-meter breaststroke (both fourth-place finishes) and 50-meter freestyle (fifth place).
Mallory’s older sister, Makenzie, also turned in several solid performances in the nine- and 10-year-old division, with four fourth-place finishes (50-meter backstroke, 100-meter backstroke, 50-meter fly and 100-meter fly) and four fifth-place finishes (50-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle, 50-meter breaststroke and 100-meter breaststroke).
Trent Lakes had 10 top-five performances, although the top place eluded him. He finished second in the nine- and 10-year-old divisions in the 100-meter freestyle and 200-meter freestyle; third in the 50-meter backstroke, the 100-meter backstroke, 50-meter breaststroke, 100-meter breaststroke, the 50-meter fly and the 200-meter individual medley. He finished fourth in the 100-meter fly.
Tilly Baldwin finished with two top-five performances (third in the 100-meter breaststroke and fourth in the 200-meter freestyle) and cracked the top-10 six times.
Other Telford swimmers who competed included Hadley Neal, Olivia Smith and Rikki Babuka.
