PETA and the rise of stupidity

RICHMOND — Every so often, I’m reminded just how many stupid people there really are in this wonderful, wonderful world. And sadly, in the past few years those painful reminders have become much, much more frequent.

I’m not sure if the idiots are multiplying at an exponential rate, or if their moronic behavior is just becoming a little more high-profile.

Either way, it seems stupidity is on the rise.

And one organization continues to be the leading voice for the slow-witted, dull and obtuse all around the world — The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

It came as no surprise that in the hours following the heart-wrenching death of Eight Belles after her second-place finish at the Kentucky Derby that the out-of-touch activists that run this self-righteous organization tried to use this tragedy to promote their own cause.

I’m not going to repeat the completely unfounded, absurd charges that PETA made against the horse’s jockey, trainer, owner and the entire horse racing industry.

We’ve all heard them.

Still, none of us should be surprised by what this radical group had to say this time. If you’ve been paying attention, you’d know that this isn’t the first time this collection of ill-informed knuckleheads has made fools out of themselves.

During the past few decades, they’ve lashed out at every imaginable target in a desperate attempt to draw any kind of attention from a usually friendly media.

And it normally works.

But, not this time.

This time PETA’s attacks have shockingly, for the most part, fallen on deaf ears. The main-stream media addressed the topic, as we all knew they would, but for the most part without the usual commentary from some well-meaning, but completely uninformed member of PETA.

I can’t even began to tell you how much that helps restore my faith in humanity.

It’s becoming easier and easier to ignore PETA’s ridiculous antics, but that’s not enough.

Not any more.

The public has to have the courage to respond to these kind of organizations in the harshest tone. So, let me be among the first to start the assault.

I hope many more of you will join me.

Hey PETA! I have a simple message for you.

SHUT UP!

Your organization is nothing more than a collection of pundits who have used a legitimate, honorable cause to advance a left-wing ideology which in the end is simply more interested in gaining influence and power than helping animals.

You are hypocrites and you are horrible, horrible people!

You don’t speak for animals and certainly don’t speak for the majority of the people in this country.

Your act has become tired, boring and very predictable.

So, do all of us normal people a favor and just shut up. We don’t want to hear your asinine, idiotic, factually incorrect ramblings any more.

So, put down your protest signs, stop sending out press releases and head back to the nearest liberal arts college or up-scale coffee house.

Trust me, you won’t be missed.

Sadly, the ever-growing number of stupid people in this world will have no problem finding some other backward, deceptive, profit-motivated organization to blindly support.
