Democratic rally, bean supper Thursday night

RICHMOND — Madison County Democrats will host a free bean supper and rally on Thursday, Oct. 11, at the Madison County Fairgrounds on Irvine Road.

In addition to free food and live music, the rally will offer an opportunities to meet Democratic candidates and elected officials, according to Brooks Stumbo, county Democratic chair.

Food service begins at 5:30 p.m. with speaking set for 6:30 p.m.

The soup beans and cornbread are being prepared by the team from St. Paul AME Church in Richmond that prepares and serves the free community lunch every Thursday. Hot dogs will be available for youngsters.

Live music will be provided by Madison County Jailer Doug Thomas and his band, the Freedom Riders.

The Madison County Democratic Woman’s Club has donated a 42-inch LG plasma TV as a door prize in memory of the late Betsy Cochran.

Tickets are free, but ticket holders must be present to win.

Guest speakers will include U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler, D-Sixth District, Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, state Auditor Adam Edelen and Speaker of the House Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg.

Local candidates for state representative, Rep. Rita Smart, D-Richmond, Bud Montgomery, candidate for the 36th District that includes southern Madison County and Garrard County, and Jo Ellen Reed, candidate for the 73rd District that includes northern Madison County and Clark County.
