The third annual Whippoorwill Festival begins today at HomeGrown Hideaways, a farm on Floyd Branch Road owned by Jessa and Nathan Turner of Berea.
The four-day festival features more than 75 workshops to promote sustainable living in Appalachia by sharing earth-friendly living skills in a positive, healthy and family-friendly atmosphere.
Workshops include anything from learning basic bicycle maintenance to raising backyard chickens.
In addition to the workshops, the festival admission fee includes tent camping (RV site additional), home-cooked meals, guest speakers, plus Appalachian music, dancing and story-telling in the evenings.
Tickets are $25 per day and free for children under age 16.
