Register Staff Report
Saturday volunteers will descend upon Fort Boonesborough State Park for the 20th annual National Public Lands Day.
According to the NPLD website, the event is the largest gathering for work on public lands in the nation.
Bryan Cole, coordinator for the Fort Boonesborough event, said volunteers will clean up along the Madison County bank of the Kentucky River and put plants in around the park, in addition to other projects.
The volunteers will meet in the morning in front of the swimming pool, and that area will serve as their headquarters throughout the day, Cole said.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This year, the Toyota Motor company is the day’s national sponsor, but Cole said several local sponsors also are supporting the event.
