Fiscal Court approves new administrative assistant position for county attorney

RICHMOND — The county attorney’s office will soon be looking for another administrative assistant after the Madison Fiscal Court approved creating a new position at Tuesday morning’s meeting.

County Attorney Marc Robbins said the position was necessary but there was no room in his budget to hire a new person. He proposed the court make the hire, and his office would fully reimburse them for the cost.

“It wouldn’t cost the court any money at all,” Robbins said. “It would give them the opportunity to hire someone and give them county benefits. You really can’t hire anyone without giving them insurance and retirement.”

Robbins said the salary and other details for the position have not yet been worked out because he wanted to wait for approval to move forward with planning. The new assistant will likely be used to handle both child support and prosecutorial responsibilities, Robbins said.

In other business, the court:

• Authorized County Judge/Executive Kent Clark to accept a $277,128 grant from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet as reimbursement for the cost of resurfacing county roads.

• Clark announced the county was proceeding with construction on Wilderness Trail Road, and everything but blacktopping should be completed by the end of the year.

• Clark said rebuilding of the US 25/Eastern Bypass intersection should be completed by the end of the month, if the weather permits.

The next fiscal court meeting will be 9:30 a.m. Nov. 26 at the county courthouse, 101 W. Main St., Richmond.
