BEREA — On Saturday, Madison Southern High School will host the Kentucky Music Educators Association Class A and 4-A eastern regional quarterfinals marching band competitions.
The event kicks off at 11 a.m. and will continue throughout the day. Tickets are $10 each.
MSHS, which has hosted the event the past four years, is expecting a large attendance, said Mary McNemar of the school’s band booster organization.
Marching bands that receive a proficient rating and compete in at least two KMEA-sanctioned contests during the season are eligible to compete in a regional quarterfinal.
Bands competing in Division A are: Beechwood, Hazard, Nicholas County, Harlan, Williamstown, Pineville, Paris, Middlesboro, Raceland-Worthington and Lee County.
In Division 4-A, competing bands are: Pulaski County, Madison Southern, Southwestern of Pulaski County, Anderson County, East Jessamine, Harrison County, Rowan County, Harlan County, Grant County, Lincoln County, Marion County, Shelby County and Mercer County.
The top eight bands from each regional quarterfinal division will advance to state semifinals Oct. 26. Four finalist bands will then be chosen from each class.
The final round will begin at 6 p.m. at the University of Louisville’s Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.
