Stolen Jeep found overturned in creek

RICHMOND — A Jeep that had been stolen over the weekend was discovered by Richmond police Sunday overturned in a ditch on Steep Street.

Officers responded at 7:58 a.m. to the 200 block of Steep Street to investigate a call about a wrecked vehicle. They found the unoccupied 1998 Jeep Cherokee overturned in a small stream, according to the police report.

The vehicle had sustained severe damage, the officers reported.

The registered owner of the vehicle told police he had parked the Jeep on Thursday in the Southern Hills Plaza parking lot for the weekend. It had been left unlocked with the keys inside.

The owner was not aware his vehicle had been stolen.

Estimated loss is $4,000.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Richmond Police Department at 623-1162.
