Career Day at White Hall Elementary

RICHMOND — A dentist, fitness instructor and a softball coach all walked the halls of White Hall Elementary School Wednesday for Career Day.

The students learned about different careers and the education needed to achieve them.

The concept of career day is for students to get a glimpse of different careers.

"Exposing kids of all ages to the world of work can broaden their perspectives and spur them to more interesting and productive careers," Susan Huntzinger, fourth grade teacher, said.

While wearing his robe, Madison District Court Judge Earl-Ray Neal talked about his job and how his position affects the community.

The owner of Salon 116, along with three of the salon's hairdressers, explained why they chose their profession. They gave reasons why they loved their job while braiding and glitter-spraying a few lucky students' hair.

Career Day was coordinated to align with a career studies section that is part of the fourth and fifth-grade curriculum.

"Career days also help bridge the gap between the school and community," Huntzinger, said.
