Detonation of conventional munitions to resume April 1 at depot

Register staff report

MADISON COUNTY — The Blue Grass Army Depot will begin its seasonal detonation of obsolete and unserviceable conventional explosives April 1, according to a news release Monday from the installation.

The detonation and burning season, which typically runs from April through October, does not involve chemical munitions.

The operations will take place primarily Monday through Thursday with the goal of no weekend activity, the release stated.

The depot’s demilitarization activities are regulated and monitored by the Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection and the BGAD staff to ensure minimal disruption to the surrounding community, according to the release.

If a person believes the noise and/or vibrations are causing damage to buildings or personal discomfort, contact the BGAD Public Affairs Office at 779-6221 or email usarmy.bgad.jmc.list.bgad-pao@mail.mil.
