Police: Man repeatedly strikes officer attempting a medical transport

RICHMOND — A Richmond man is facing several charges after allegedly assaulting a police officer who was court ordered to transport him to a medical facility in Lexington, according to Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock.

There is a process in which a person can file an affidavit, usually a family member or health care professional, that results in a judge ordering a person to be examined, Brock said.

In this case, an officer was dispatched March 12 to Baptist Health in Richmond to carry out a court order to transport Anthony Spencer, 21, of Robinson Terrace, and he didn’t want to go, the chief said.

As the officer attempted to escort Spencer to his vehicle, he resisted and reportedly struck the officers several times in the head and attempted to flee, according to the RPD report.

When the officer detain Spencer, he found two small bags of marijuana on his person while a set of scales were recovered from the floor where the struggle occurred, the report stated.

Although Spencer was not injured in the incident, the officer suffered several contusions and “his uniform was also damaged in the fracas,” according to the RPD report.

After the transport order was carried out, Spencer was returned to Richmond and lodged at the Madison County Detention Center.

He is charged with third-degree assault of a police officer, second-degree fleeing or evading police, third-degree criminal mischief, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Spencer was released on a third-party unsecured bond with monitored conditional release, according to jail records.

RPD: Berea man attempts arm robbery one day after stealing from Walmart

Saturday afternoon, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of E. Locust Street to investigate a reported robbery.

Police learned that a male suspect, later identified as Jeremy S. Green, 27, of Berea, had forced his way into the home and demanded money, according to Brock.

Green was reportedly armed with a handgun and threatened to harm the residents, who told him that they did not have any money.

Green fled from the house and jumped into an awaiting escape car after he suspected that a neighbor may have been alerted to a problem at the residence, according to the police report.

RPD located Green at a residence in Berea and interviewed him at the police station, after which he was charged with first-degree burglary.

In addition, Green was charged with theft by unlawful taking under $500 in connection with a shoplifting incident at Walmart the day before.

Store employees saw Green exit the store without paying for around $80 worth of merchandise, Brock said. Green was then detained by employees and returned to the store where the stolen items were recovered.

When Green learned that the police were being called, he fled from the store and left in an awaiting vehicle, the report stated.

Green remains at the detention center in lieu of a $25,000 cash bond.
