Community organizations, churches serve up Thanksgiving meals

RICHMOND —

The sharing spirit will be alive Thursday in Richmond as several churches and organizations host free community meals.

St. Paul AME Church, 437 Francis St., will host a meal as it did last year with traditional items such as turkey and dressing. It will be from noon to 2:30 p.m., according to Pastor William Hale.

Rosedale Baptist Church, 411 Westover Ave., will not only host a free community Thanksgiving feast at noon, but volunteers also will deliver a plate of food to people over 65 or to those with special needs.

To request a meal delivery, call the church at 623-1771 and leave a message with a name and address.

The church also offers rides to the meal upon request.

The Salvation Army, 1675 E. Main St., will offer a free Thanksgiving meal from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Volunteer cooks with Home Meals Delivery have been working all week to prepare meals that will be sent throughout Madison County on Thanksgiving Day.

Last year about 325 meals were delivered on Thanksgiving through Home Meals Delivery. Requests for a meal can be submitted by calling either the Madison County or Berea fire departments.

Volunteer delivery drivers should meet before 11 a.m. Thursday at the Baptist Campus Ministry, 324 University Drive, with coolers for the food.

Sarah Hogsed can be reached at shogsed@richmondregister.com or 624-6694.
