Allen named 2012 Deputy of the Year

RICHMOND — A detective with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department has been named the 2012 Deputy of the Year by American Legion Post 12 of Richmond.

Detective Sgt. Todd Allen received the award Thursday at the Madison County Veterans Center. American Legion Post 12 presented him with a plaque.

Allen, 43, has been with the sheriff’s office for three years. Prior to that, he worked for the High Point (N.C.) Police Department for 11 years.

The detective is a married father of five children. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University graduate were he earned a degree in criminal justice.

Deputy Edward Clyne York was runner-up for Deputy of the Year. He is a former Berea Police Department officer and has served with the Madison County Sheriff since 2011.

American Legion members made their selections based on information received from the sheriff’s department.

Also recently recognized was Deputy Amy Land, who was named the 2012 Court Security Officer of the Year.
