The First baptist Church, Francis Street, on Monday evening conducted a ceremony to honor Madison County’s black veterans.
The names of black service men and women who were killed or missing in action were read aloud. Veterans then set a symbolic table for prisoners of war who were kept from their families.
Living veterans, both retired and still serving, were given copies of their service branch’s creed, and those who have won medals for valor during their service were honored with applause and prayers from the audience.
