Home Meals gearing up for fundraising appeal, Thanksgiving dinner

Register Staff Report

RICHMOND — Home Meals Delivery, which delivers about 50 free meals each weekday, is making plans for its biggest event of the year as well as its annual fundraising appeal.

The organization normally delivers meals just in the Richmond area, but at Thanksgiving it reaches out to residents across the county, including Berea, who won't have the benefit of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

Last year about 325 free meals were delivered for the holiday that is associated with feasting.

The organization will soon be mailing its annual fundraising appeal, said Karl Park, who chairs the Home Meals Delivery board.

Beginning Nov. 18, requests for a delivered Thanksgiving meal can be submitted by calling either the Madison County or the Berea fire departments.

Requests for volunteers to deliver the meals also will be made next month, Park said.

Home Meals prepared and delivered more than 1,000 meals during September, he said.

In addition to hot meals delivered during the week, recipients may request frozen meals for the weekend, he added.

The program is run primarily by volunteers with one paid cook and an assistant.
