Man charged with assault after victim beaten, stabbed

RICHMOND — Joseph B. King, 35, of Mount Vernon, was charged Friday with second-degree assault and alcohol intoxication after officers responded to the Hines Motel on reports of a possible assault, according to a Richmond Police Department news release.

Upon arrival at 3:07 a.m., the officers met with the complainant, who reported encountering a man covered with blood who claimed he had stabbed someone.

The officers checked the area and found a man in the motel parking lot who was injured. The victim said someone had entered his room and assaulted him. He had a cut over one eye and dried blood over a large part of his body, the release stated.

The victim was transported to Baptist Health-Richmond, where he was found to have a broken orbital socket, a broken nose and a broken rib in addition to the laceration. He was treated before being released.

While they were at the scene, officers said observed a man running from the area around the motel. The officers located the suspect they later identified as King. He was covered in blood, but was uninjured, the release stated.

King was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center, where he remained Monday evening, according to the jail’s online records.

Man charged with wanton endangerment after gunshot fired

Gregory Price, 43, of Raintree Drive, was charged early Sunday morning with first-degree wanton endangerment after police said he fired a rifle into the air within the city limits in the presence of an officer.

According to the release, a patrol officer was approached in the 1000 block of Raintree Drive about 11:15 p.m. Saturday by a man who reported he had been threatened by an individual holding a long gun.

The officer then observed the shadow of another man at a nearby residence and shined a flashlight on him. The officer then saw the man, Price, was holding a rifle. The officer took cover behind his vehicle and identified himself as a member of the RPD.

Price then fired one round from the rifle into the air, the release stated. He then walked to his garage, where the officer observed him consuming an alcoholic beverage while holding the rifle. When Price placed the weapon in the bed of a pickup truck and walked away from it, officers detained him, the release stated.

Price was lodged in the detention center early Sunday, but was released later in the day, according to the jail’s online records.
