Boil-water advisory lifted for downtown Richmond neighborhood

RICHMOND — Richmond Utilities has lifted the 24-hour boil-water advisory in parts of downtown Richmond following work on the area's water main.

The boil water advisory had been issued at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for Woodland Avenue, Glyndon Avenue and Moberly Avenue between Third and Fifth streets.

The utility had previously announced that repairs on the area's water main would be performed between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday, which resulted in service disruptions. Howeverr the work went longer than expected into Wednesday afternoon.

Lonnie Banks, water quality specialist, said the boil-water advisory is a routine measure that is taken anytime water pipes are exposed to the air. Water samples were taken and tested before the advisory was lifted.

Read tomorrow's Richmond Register to find out about the efforts the city's water utility is making to improve water pressure and eliminate discolored water for downtown customers.
