RICHMOND — The Easter Bunny is going to have a busy day.

After hopping all over Irvine-McDowell Park Saturday for the annual Eggstravaganza event, the long-eared Easter celebrity, accompanied by a police officer, will visit the homes of children whose parents have made arrangements with the Richmond Parks and Recreation Department.

But before the Easter Bunny is free to pay anyone a visit, he will be available for pictures at the Eggstravaganza from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., said Brittany Toombs, program coordinator with Richmond Parks and Recreation.

The event is still scheduled to take place at Irvine-McDowell Park, but has been moved to the lower field area near Third Street and University Drive, Toombs said.

Parking is suggested at the lot behind the Alumni House on Lancaster Avenue or along University Drive, she said.

Four candy hunts are scheduled: 11:30 a.m. for ages 3 and under; noon for ages 4-5; 12:30 p.m. for ages 6-7; and 1 p.m. for ages 8-10.

“We’ve got lots of candy. We want everyone to come out and get some of it,” Toombs said.

The event will feature “Easter-themed” games and activities coordinated by students with the Eastern Kentucky University recreation department.

There also will be face-painting, a petting zoo, $4 pony rides, several food vendors and clogging and karate demonstrations.

The event’s corporate sponsored is Meijer of Richmond.

A rain date will be determined Saturday if needed, Toombs said.
