No extra jail time for parents on prostitution charge

RICHMOND — Anthony and Kathy Hart, two Madison County residents who pleaded guilty May 21 to prostituting their daughters, won’t be seeing any extra time in jail.

Both parents, who served time in jail while their charges were pending, were sentenced to probation Thursday in Madison Circuit Court.

They were charged with “arranging for their 13- and 14-year-old daughters to provide companionship and affection to male individuals in exchange for money and goods” from October 2009 to February 2011, according to a Madison County grand jury indictment.

Anthony Hart, who has served 1,232 days in jail, was sentenced to two years’ supervised probation, during which he is prohibited from talking to his daughters. He also is to find employment, Judge Jean Chenault Logue ordered. He will face five years in prison if he violates his probation, the judge said.

Even if Hart was sentenced Thursday to the five-year prison sentence the state had recommended, because of time already served, he would have been eligible for immediate release, said Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jennifer Smith.

Kathy Hart was sentenced to five years supervised probation, under the same guidelines as her husband. She had already spent 400 days in jail, Smith said. If she violates her probation, however, she could spend five years in prison, the prosecutor said.

Ex-fraternity treasurer pleads guilty

Donald Hawkins, the EKU student indicted for embezzling almost $4,000 from his fraternity pleaded guilty in circuit court on Wednesday.

For the class D felony of theft by failure to make required disposition of property, the state recommended one year of supervised probation. Sentencing was scheduled for Aug. 14.
