State Rep. Rita Smart, who has served the people of Madison County in the General Assembly since 2011, has been appointed by House leaders to the Appropriations and Revenue Committee, which plays a crucial role in writing the state’s budget.
“This is a great honor, because this committee does so much to determine the direction of the state and how our tax dollars are spent,” Rep. Smart, D-Richmond, said in a news release. “Our community will now have a much stronger say because of this.”
“Rita has been an outstanding member of the House from the moment she came to Frankfort,” said House Speaker Greg Stumbo. “It was an easy choice to include her on this committee. She will truly be an asset, both to the committee and the people of Kentucky.”
In addition to Appropriations and Revenue, Rep. Smart also is a member of these other House committees: Agriculture & Small Business; Education; Local Government; and Veterans, Military Affairs & Public Protection.
