Two charged after sheriff's deputies discover meth lab

Register Staff Report

MADISON COUNTY — A call to sheriff's deputies to check the welfare of a Phelps Road resident Friday morning led to the arrest of two men on methamphetamine-making charges.

When deputies arrived at the residence they noticed a strong odor of ether, according to a Madison County Sheriff's Office news release.

They searched the home and found Christopher Mullikin, 32, of Phelps Road, and Colen Wilburn, 37, of Red House Road, the release stated.

Inside the residence, the deputies reported finding a one-step meth lab along with quantities of heroin, methadone and methamphetamine.

Mullikin and Wilburn were lodged in the Madison County Detention Center where they remained Friday evening, according to the jail’s online records.

Based on an Estill County warrant, a woman at the residence was charged with failure to pay fines.

The release stated further charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance for heroin, methadone and methamphetamine were pending for all three people.
