Veterans’ benefits workshop June 20 at Morning Pointe

RICHMOND — Veterans and/or their spouses or widows are invited to attend a special veterans’ benefits workshop Thursday, June 20, at 6:30 p.m. at Morning Pointe Senior Care Community, 1400 Gibson Bay Drive in Richmond

To qualify for the benefits to be covered, an applicant must be a veteran or the spouse of a veteran with 90 days of active military service, a discharge of any kind other than dishonorable, and age 65 or older.

During this workshop, you will learn how to qualify for a relatively unknown and rarely used veteran’s benefit that pays up to $2,017 per month tax free, according to an announcement from Morning Pointe.

According to, the Veterans Administration estimates only 27 percent of veterans and 14 percent of veterans’ widows who probably could qualify for the pension actually receive monthly checks. An estimated two million veterans likely are missing out on $22 billion in pension benefits.

A VA study indicates that those not receiving the benefit generally are unaware the benefit exists.

“Veterans have earned this benefit by this service to our nation. We want to ensure that every veteran or surviving spouse who qualifies has a chance to apply,” Jim Nicholson,  former Secretary of Veterans Affairs has said.

To attend this workshop, you must RSVP by Monday, June 17, to Morning Pointe Senior Care Community, 1400 Gibson Bay Drive, Richmond, KY. Phone 859-626-5000.
