Scott deputy shoots, kills Berea man after I-75 chase Saturday

I-75 chase

MADISON COUNTY — Ronald Michael Davis, 31, of Berea was shot and killed by a Scott County deputy Saturday morning after he led police on a chase up Interstate 75.

According to KSP Trooper Ronald Turley, police began pursuing Davis’ vehicle after it was linked to a shooting at a service station at I-75’s Athens-Boonesboro exit in which a woman was seriously injured.

The woman’s identity has not been released, but a caller to the Richmond Register who claimed to be an acquaintance of hers said she is from Madison County.

She remained in the University of Kentucky Medical Center on Sunday night.

Davis eluded Lexington police who attempted to stop him on the interstate in Fayette County.

Scott County deputies joined the effort after he crossed the county line.

Davis continued northbound on the interstate even after a “stop stick” tire-deflation device deputies put in his path at Exit 125 flattened his passenger-side tires.

He drove around another stop stick at Exit 129, but ran into a ditch soon afterwards.

Davis then got out of his vehicle with a handgun, threaten officers who had caught up with him and pointed the weapon at them, according to Turley. At that point a Scott County deputy opened fire, hitting Davis who was pronounced dead at the scene around 9:40 a.m. by the Scott County coroner.

The interstate’s northbound lanes remained closed until about 2 p.m. as the incident was investigated.

The state police are investigating the shooting of Davis Scott County, Turley said, while Lexington police are investigating the Fayette County shooting.
