Police: Woman drove through storage business gate

RICHMOND — Richmond police arrested a Lexington woman Monday night after the property manager at Main Street Storage said she repeatedly drove her vehicle into a gate and fence at the 455 E. Main St. business.

Lisa K. Begley, 51, was charged with first degree criminal mischief and leaving the scene of an accident in connection with the incident. She also was charged with several traffic offenses, including driving under the influence, after she was stopped by police on West Main Street.

The property manager told an officer dispatched at approximately 9:42 p.m. to East Main Storage that Begley was visiting him but left abruptly, according to the police report.

Upon hearing a crash, he went outside and discovered Begley had struck a gate and several storage buildings. A witness reported seeing Begley’s vehicle back into the front gate of the facility several times and then strike several storage units as she drove toward the rear of the premises. She then crashed her vehicle through the closed rear gate before fleeing west on Main Street, the police report stated.

A short time later, another officer stopped the vehicle on West Main Street at Westover Avenue where Begley was taken into custody. In addition to the criminal mischief and DUI charges, Begley also was charged with having no operator’s license, no vehicle insurance, and no valid license plates.

She was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center where she remained Tuesday afternoon, according to the jail’s online records.

Anyone with information about this or other cases is asked to call the Richmond Police Department at 623-1162.
