New medicare rule starts in July

Special to the Register

RICHMOND — Changes are coming for people with “original Medicare who use home delivery of diabetic testing supplies," according to information provided by the State Health Insurance Program.

Starting July 1, Medicare will not pay anything for home delivered supplies unless the company is on Medicare’s list of approved suppliers.

This rule applies to delivery by local pharmacies as well as mail-order companies.

To find an approved supplier in your Zip code, you may call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).

You can also go to the website.

If you are covered by a Medicare Advantage Health Plan, instead of Original Medicare, your plan should have notified you of any changes. Check with your Advantage plan if you're not sure.

Help with finding an approved supplier of diabetic testing supplies or with other Medicare questions is available through the State Health Insurance Program.

A SHIP benefits counselor is available most Thursday mornings at the Richmond Senior Citizens Center, 1215 W. Main St.
