Richmond man uninjured in fatal Estill County collision

ESTILL COUNTY — A Richmond man was involved in an accident Saturday afternoon in Estill County that resulted in the death of a woman.

Nancy Tipton, 33, of Irvine, died after the Chevrolet Malibu she was in failed to stop at a red light and attempted to make a left turn onto Kentucky 52 from the John Proctor Memorial Bypass west of Irvine, according to a Kentucky State Police news release.

The vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a GMC truck driven by John McCord, 69, of Richmond, when it drove directly into the truck’s path. McCord was traveling west on Kentucky 52, the release stated.

Tipton was taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where she died.

McCord was not injured in the collision, KSP said.

Trooper Charles Brandenburg is the investigating officer and was assisted at the scene by Trooper Bobby Edwards, Estill County Rescue Squad and Estill County EMS.
