The Madison Central Marching Band is hosting its 26th annual Tournament of Bands on Saturday.
Ten high school bands will be competing, including some that have won multiple state championships – Lafayette of Lexington (5A), Grant County (4A) and Adair County (3A).
Madison Central will perform an exhibition during the evening, but will not be competing,
After the 1:30 p.m. opening ceremonies, bands will compete according to classification from 1A to 5A. Preliminary awards will be presented at 4:45 p.m., with the final competition starting at 6:15 p.m. The final awards ceremony is scheduled for 9 p.m.
As the host band, Madison Central will perform an exhibition at 8:45 p.m. while the judges compute their final scores. The band’s show this year is titled “Guardians.”
The band has been having success with the show as it has entered Kentucky Music Educators’ Association band competitions almost every Saturday.
Madison Central was named grand champion of the Grant County Marching Band Festival, Sept. 29, finishing ahead of Louisville’s DuPont Manual and Harrison County. Central won Best Color Guard, Best Percussion, Best Overall Music and Best Visual.
The MCHS band also was named grand champion of the Montgomery Marching Invitational, Sept. 15, outscoring Tates Creek and Henry Clay of Lexington, as well as Bourbon, Anderson and Woodford counties.
