Ann Laurence has been named publisher of the Richmond Register, succeeding Nick Lewis, who held the post for the previous eight and a half years.
Keith Blevins, Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. chief operating officer, announced Laurence’s appointment Monday.
“We are fortunate to have someone of Ann’s ability as publisher in Richmond,” Blevins said. “She is an excellent publisher and former longtime resident of the area and will do an outstanding job for the readers and advertisers of the Richmond Register.”
A native of Winchester, where she still has family, Laurence comes to Madison County from Athens, Ala., where she had been publisher of The News Courier since 2005.
Prior to that she was publisher of The Morehead (Ky.) News Group from 2003-2005.
“It’s wonderful to be back in Kentucky," Laurence said. “I am fortunate to have the opportunity to build on the accomplishments of the Richmond Register team.”
“I want to get involved with the community as quickly as possible, so I can be part of helping make a great newspaper and a great place to live even better,” she said.
“The Richmond Register has a long and proud history of providing Madison County with comprehensive, up-to-date news coverage through a range of multimedia products.”
At The News Courier, Laurence oversaw award-winning daily newspaper operations that included digital, print and niche publications of Limestone Life, Tennessee Valley Agriculture, Business Today and BOOM magazines.
Laurence began her newspaper career at The Winchester Sun in her hometown, where she started in the composing room and worked her way up to advertising director. She also worked in sales management for the Lexington Herald-Leader and The New London (Conn.) Day before joining Community Newspaper Holdings’ Bluegrass Division in 2000 as director of group sales/niche products.
In her new role, Laurence will oversee the overall operations of The Register. She began those duties Monday.
