Madison Middle Band’s ‘A Night At the Movies’ Thursday

RICHMOND — The Madison Middle School band will take its audience to “A Night At the Movies” 7 p.m. Thursday at the Eastern Kentucky University Ravine.

The show will feature music from “Star Wars,” “The Chronicles of Narnia,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “The Hunger Games,” “Superman” and James Bond, Batman, Austin Powers and Harry Potter movie series.

The show also will feature guest cowbell soloist Robbie Riley.

A blanket or folding chair is recommended for the outdoor event. The MMS Auditorium is the rain location if there is inclement weather.

The band’s director Kerry Evans is in his seventh year with the program. He comes to MMS from EKU where he earned bachelor  and master of music degrees.

Bands under Evans’ direction have received distinguished ratings at the Kentucky Music Educators Association competitions.

The MMS band was invited to perform at the 2011 UK Middle School Invitational, and most recently, the 2013 KMEA State Convention.

Evans was recognized as the “KMEA District 11 Middle School Teacher of the Year” and as “A Teacher Who Made a Difference” by the University of Kentucky.

Evans also served as a guest conductor for the 2011 EKU Middle School Honor Band, judged numerous KMEA solo and ensemble contests and is the KMEA District 11 president.
