When the Hospice Care Plus’s Derby event committee began planning for the 2013 Run for the Roses Derby Eve benefit — Madison County’s longest-running Derby party — they decided to change it up a bit.
They began with a new name: The Gala on Derby Eve.
Eastern Kentucky University students were positioned outside of the Armed Forces Reserve Center Friday night to offer complimentary valet parking to the black-tie affair.
Guests arrived to find a “red-carpet entrance” with a line of photographers snapping shots against a backdrop featuring the new Gala logo.
Monticello group Klassyc Tymes entertained the lively crowd all evening as the glamorous guests worked up a sweat on the dance floor. The dimly-lit room was scattered with roses and a winner’s cup ice sculpture served as the centerpiece.
The $100 a ticket event raised nearly $20,000 to benefit Hospice, said special events coordinator Angela Bailey-Davis.
