Kirksville second-graders perform in 'A Froggy Day in Lindentown'

RICHMOND — More than 100 second-grade “creatures” at Kirksville Elementary taught friends and family on Thursday about how to handle a bully — make friends with him.

In “A Froggy Day in Lindentown,” students told the story of Bully the Bullfrog, who moves to a swamp called Lindentown.

All of the creatures in the swamp are scared of Bully and they avoid him.

But one night, before the “All Swamp Sing,” Toadie the Toad gets a frog in his throat. One of the animals then discovers Bully has a great singing voice and invites him to sing. Bully accepts the invitation and has a change of attitude, befriending all of the swamp creatures in Lindentown.

Kirksville students prepared for the performance over six weeks of rehearsal, said music teacher Lori Wallace.

Each grade performs its own musical, something Wallace has coordinated for more than 22 years, she said.

“The kids love performing,” said Wallace, who recalled that performing in a musical was one of her first memories of elementary school.
