Richmond firefighters’ toy drive prepares for celebration

Register Staff Report

RICHMOND — The Richmond Firefighters Association and community supporters are gearing up to spread Christmas joy to hundreds of children next month.

The association’s annual toy drive, a tradition that dates back to at least the 1940s, has begun, and new toys are being accepted at Station 1, 200 N. Madison Ave., until Dec. 12.

Monetary donations also are being accepted, and volunteers are always needed to help with the giveaway.

The big day for Madison County children will be 8 a.m. to noon Dec. 14 at the fire training center, 255 Four Mile Ave. The children will be able to pick out their gifts.

Parents and caregivers must preregister their children, from birth through age 12, at Station 1, and the deadline is Dec. 12. They must provide a birth certificate for each child and two proofs of Madison County residency.

No proof of

income is required

Last year, more than 400 children received gifts through the toy drive, including 85 bicycles that were donated by Walmart.
