Hospice Care Plus and Ford Brothers Inc. have partnered for the nonprofit organization’s first online charity auction.
The Antiques & Treasures Auction is live and continues through Tuesday at www.fordbrothersinc.com. A direct link to the auction is at www.hospicecp.org, however, the public can view the items in person from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday at Citizens Guaranty Bank, 214 Richmond Road North, Berea.
The new event has drawn support from people throughout the organization’s service area, said Hospice spokesperson Brenna Wallhausser.
“Our first step was to request donated antiques, collectibles and other treasures,” said Wallhausser. “And we’ve been really honored by the response.”
A man in Jackson County donated a handmade leather horsewhip he called a “black snake whip,” she said. An anonymous donor in the Madison County area donated a beautiful heirloom from her family.
“Those are just two examples of many,” Wallhausser said. “It’s remarkable that so many friends have been willing to donate a piece of their history to help with this fundraiser.” Many of the donated items come from individuals who have received hospice care. “It’s very humbling when someone tells you they’re giving you this treasured heirloom because you cared for their mother,” she said. “I think all of us at Hospice are overwhelmed when we hear that. So many of us feel it’s our blessing to be able to care for their family members. We’re grateful for that chance, so it often surprises us when they reach out to us with the same gratitude.” All of the items are visible on the Ford Brothers website. They include antique, vintage or collectible furniture, lamps, china, pottery, glassware, art and more.
Earlier this week, the four items drawing the highest bids were a vanity dresser, pie safe, a 12-place setting of Pfaltzgraff china and two brass buckets. Because of the partnership with Ford Brothers and the support of sponsors, all proceeds from the auction will go directly to Hospice Care Plus programs and services for patients and families.
