Operation Christmas Child kick-off is Saturday

RICHMOND — Local efforts on behalf of Operation Christmas Child 2013 will begin 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, 401 W. Main St., Richmond.

The event is open to everyone and will take place in the church’s multi-ministry center directly behind the main building, according to Kim Jones.

The kick-off event is free and promotional items and decorative shoeboxes to use for shoebox preparation will be available. For more details, contact Jones at 623-6627.

Operation Christmas Child (a project of Christian Worldwide Relief Organization, Samaritan’s Purse) reaches out to children ages 2-14 living in difficult circumstances all over the world with shoe box gifts, filled with hygiene items, school supplies, clothing and toys – sending them a message of hope and love, she said. Since 1993, this organization has distributed more than 100 million shoe box gifts, and is the largest Christmas project for children of its kind in the world.
