Art in Science

RICHMOND — Teacher Kathy Coomer instructed students on how to create their own soda-bottle “lightning bug” Tuesday afternoon as part of the Richmond Area Arts Council’s “Art in Science” after-school program.

While they worked, the children learned about the chemical reaction that causes lightning bugs to glow, as well as the different parts of the bugs and why they behave as they do.

After the students finished their projects, they put glowsticks inside the bottles and turned out the room lights to watch their lightning bugs glow.
