Ex-Canadian Brass trumpeter joins community band in Sunday concert

Special to the Register

RICHMOND — The Madison Community Band, now in its fourth year of making music in the Richmond area, will be joined Sunday by trumpet virtuoso Joe Burgstaller for a 3 p.m. concert in the Madison Central High School auditorium.

The band will accompany Burgstaller on Vivaldi’s “Concerto in D” and “La Virgin de la Macarena,” according to Dr. John Stroube, the band’s director.

Now a freelance trumpet soloist, Burgstaller spent eight years as a member of the Canadian Brass, a group known for its showmanship in addition to its musicianship.

The band’s Sunday program also will include “American Overture” by Joseph Wilcox Jenkins, “Allerseelen” by Richard Strauss, “Army of the Potomac” by Cecil Karrick and “The Magic of Andrew Lloyd Webber” in celebration of that composer’s 65th birthday and the record-breaking run for “Phantom of the Opera” on Broadway.

There is no admission charge, but a $5 donation is suggested.

Questions about the concert or about the Madison Community Band may be addressed to the director, Dr. John Stroube,
