Register staff report
The Episcopal Church of Our Saviour is opening its first annual visual art show – Art…A Spiritual Gift – with a public wine tasting and reception with the artists from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday. The evening will feature music by local performer Sidney Parsons.
Art…A Spiritual Gift is the result of months of planning with renowned artist and show curator Ronald Gosses.
“Inspired by shows around the country like Art for God’s Sake in Detroit, we sent out a call in January to Kentucky artists age 18 years and older,” said Patrick Tuck, director of arts at the Church of Our Saviour.
“We accepted entries in the categories of water color, oil and acrylics, and mixed media on paper and ended up with over 30 wonderful pieces,” he said.
The opening wine tasting reception is free, but a $5 dollar suggested donation at the door benefits the evening’s entertainment and participants.
Most pieces are for sale and the show offers monetary awards in each category as juried by Ronald Gosses, Pat Banks, and Patrick Tuck.
“The church will be a buzz as artists drop off their works for the installation and as our curator transforms our church space into an art space,” Tuck said. Come early to other arts events at the Church of Our Saviour to view the show through May 23. Opportunities include 2 p.m. Second Sunday concerts on April 14 and May 12 and an Irish Dance Caeli, 7 p.m. Friday, May 3. The church is also planning weekdays in April and May to have the space open for public viewing.
