Trooper shoots Clark County drug suspect Tuesday

RICHMOND — A Kentucky State Police trooper from the Richmond post shot and wounded a drug suspect Tuesday in Clark County.

Drug enforcement and special investigations personnel, along with Clark County Sheriff Department, arrived about 10:34 a.m. at 1620 Cole Road in Clark County to investigate a drug tip, according to a news release from Trooper Robert Purdy.

Joel D. Naselroad, 32, of Winchester, exited the residence at the location and drew a handgun on two of the detectives, the release stated. KSP Detective Dennis Mabry then fired his service weapon, striking the suspect.

The wounded man was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital for treatment.

No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

Naselroad has been charged with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer.

Mabry is an 11-year veteran of the Kentucky State Police.

The KSP is continuing to investigate, the release stated.
