Man attempts to rob two Berea women

BEREA — Berea police are searching for a man who attempted to rob two women Saturday, at least one of them at gunpoint.

According to BPD Public Affairs Officer Jake Reed, a woman was approached in the parking lot of the Dollar General on Richmond Road by man who asked her to help jump start his car. He then attempted to take the woman’s purse, Reed said.

Officers responding to an unrelated report inside the store were told of the incident and rushed out to apprehend the man, but he had already fled. Witnesses reported the suspect drove away in an older model Chevrolet Cavalier described as “UK blue, but the paint job appeared to be spray-painted on,” Reed said.

About 30 minutes later, officers were called to the parking lot of Long John Silver’s. There they met a woman who said a man had approached her, put a gun against her side and twice demanded money from her.

The victim began yelling and kicked him in the shin. The man then fled to a vehicle matching the description of the blue Cavalier at Dollar General.

Reed said nothing was taken from either victim.

Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call the BPD at 986-8456.
